  • Rotary Discovery Fest - A Rotary Celebration benefiting the Discovery Center
    Saturday, February 11, 2012 : 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

    A family fun day with engaging activities for children and adults. Examples: Corn Hole, Pony rides, Zumba, Horseshoes, Cow Pattie Bingo and lots more! Music, fellowship and warm foods will be available!

    Why: A gathering to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Rotary Clubs in Florida and a fund raiser for the second floor renovations of the Discovery Center.

    • "Life Steps" Workshop Series 1 - Chiefland - (FUMC Community Room)
      Tuesday, February 14, 2012 : 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM

      Experiencing the loss of a loved one brings change into our lives on multiple levels. When we lose someone we love, we often become responsible for things we once were not.....finances, home maintenance, and even everday tasks such as cooking. It is with these changes in mind that Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services provides a special support through the "Life Steps" workshops. "Life Steps" workshops provide expert advice on topics ranging from wellness to travel. There is no cost or obligation for these workshops; they are simply an added measure of care to help you along in the healing process.

      • 12th Annual Horses for Hospice
        Saturday, February 18, 2012 : 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM

        Hospice of Marion County, Inc. will hold its 12th Annual “Horses for Hospice” Trail Ride on Saturday, February 18, 2012 on the Central Florida Greenway at the Florida Horse Park in Ocala.

        Registration begins at 8 am and the first ride leaves at 9:15 am. Riders travel from as far as Jacksonville and Tampa to spend 2 to 3 hours on the trail. Following the ride, participants can enjoy lunch by Tommy’s BBQ, live entertainment by Bordertown and 50 door prizes will be distributed to participants.

        Proceeds from this event will benefit Patient Care Programs. The minimum donation to ride is $30. Wagons are welcome; $30 for driver and $10 per passenger. Horse lovers who are unable to ride may purchase a $10 ticket to enjoy lunch and entertainment. For more information or to register, call 352-854-5218.

        • Legacies of Love -Pet Loss Workshop for Children
          Saturday, February 18, 2012 : 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM

          “Legacies of Love” is a family-centered effort to provide support and education to children who have lost a beloved pet. This 1 hr workshop discusses what it means to grieve the death of a pet,
          provide activities to help participants name and express feelings about their loss and
          commemorate pets with a complimentary keepsake quilt (one for each child present).
          The workshop will conclude with a short non-denominational moment of remembrance.

          Please note: this workshop will be facilitated by a children’s bereavement professional.

          • Charity Picnic to Benefit “Interfaith Emergency Services” - hosted by Highland Memorial Park
            Friday, February 24, 2012 : 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM

            Highland Memorial Park, Ocala’s Premier Memorial Park, is hosting a charity picnic to benefit “Interfaith Emergency Services” on Friday, Feb 24th from 11:30am to 1:00 pm. Interfaith provides emergency assistance to individuals and families in crisis. Come out and support this great local charity! The address for Highland Memorial Park is 1515 NE Third Street-Ocala (2 blocks behind Cascades Office Complex). Lunch will be served on a donation basis with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Interfaith Emergency Services and the “Food 4Kids” Program.             • United Way 19th Annual Day of Caring
              Saturday, February 25, 2012

              United Way of Marion County will hold the 19th Annual Day of Caring on Saturday, February 25, 2012. Day of Caring offers businesses, individuals, organizations and civic clubs the opportunity to help local nonprofit human service agencies accomplish much-needed projects during one day of organized volunteerism.
              Since 1993, United Way has mobilized volunteers from workplaces, clubs and organizations for a single day each year to carry out fix-up projects for community agencies around Marion County. Past projects include facility improvements, neighborhood cleanups, construction of new playgrounds and rehabilitation of housing for the elderly.
              This event not only gives volunteers a firsthand look at the real needs in our community, but it also demonstrates how United Way focuses resources to provide for important human care needs in our community by leveraging volunteers/donated materials.
